Bridging Communities
Include non-traditional partners, the schools and key local employers, in City projects with common goals for long-term strategic planning
Citizen participation in local government exemplifies Palo Alto. Our city is diverse and home to people who bring amazing talent and innovative ideas that improve our lives and the world around us. I will encourage wider and more focused discussions among different groups in our community and promote innovative and visionary approaches to common goals while moving efficiently towards results.
Develop more public/private partnerships
Our city has a long history of relying on partnerships to contribute amenities that can be enjoyed by all. Gamble Gardens and the Lucie Stern Community Center are a few of our treasured examples. These partnerships have produced terrific results.
The City alone cannot provide all the facilities we long to have. I will promote cooperation among the city, schools, non-profit organizations, and the business community to leverage their resources and creative capabilities to continue to improve and add to the public landscape.
Promote regional cooperation and innovation on issues of public safety, emergency preparedness, open space and environmental sustainability
All our neighboring cities face the same challenges with respect to public safety, emergency preparedness, parks and open space and stewardship of the environment. Most of these issues cross the artificial boundaries of municipalities and counties. I will work to solve these challenges within a larger geographic area to minimize redundancies and share resources.
